How often have you thought during a run or race: “It would be great to have a bit of a break right now”? This race format allows you to do exactly that – work hard during the timed stages, and take it easy in between – allowing you to enjoy the journey, reflect on the stage just gone, and exchange pleasantries with your fellow runners.
This original and creative concept takes you on a journey around some of the best trails in Sheffield, linking up the nicest parkland and green spaces. It is the greenest city in the UK after all!
The 11 timed stages total 20km over the 24.5km route.
The unique format breaks the route down into stages with each stage being raced. Competitors receive results for each stage as well as a combined overall result at the end. This gives you the chance to relax a little between stages, regroup with friends and fellow runners, and refocus before the next stage begins.
Competitors are allowed to walk or jog in between stages. There is a maximum time limit for each "Liaison Stage" which roughly equates to a moderate / slow walking pace. This creates a special and unique social vibe at the race. Participants set off every few seconds across their starting block so (unless you’re particularly speedy) there will always be someone to chase down!
The start / finish area in Endcliffe park will welcome you with a relaxed atmosphere. Local Artisan Coffee, Wood Fired Pizza, Sandwiches, burgers and other delightful treats will be on offer to compliment a Thornbridge beer or two to celebrate your accomplishment. The relaxed upbeat atmosphere provides enjoyment for you, your supporters and the rest of the family too.
No special kit for the summer required – trail shoes are generally the best shoe choice depending on conditions. Appropriate dress for the day according to conditions. A good recommendation would be to have a bum bag or similar containing waterproof, emergency rations such as gels, and a base layer. Bringing your own supplementary water and nutrition is also recommended. 2 Feed stations on route supplying bananas, water, energy bars, & Jelly Babies!
The Round Sheffield Run will need some dedicated training before the event so please prepare accordingly.

11 Races in one – pit your wits against your running friends on different stages where different skills come into play. At the beginning and end of each stage you need to “dib” your dibber. In between stages you will have a maximum amount of time that will be proportional to a comfortable walking pace - this will be detailed on your race cards.

Winter weather can be unpredictable so kit should be brought to suit the conditions. We’d highly recommend looking into getting a hydration pack that allows you to carry your own water and food supply as well as a waterproof, gloves, and additional layer.
It's important to assess the terrain and kit yourself out with the right type of shoe for the conditions too. A trail shoe with a soft compound rubber is our recommendation. This allows you to run on the hard packed and paved surfaces as well as getting good grip in the mud.
Microspikes that you can pull over your shoes are also an essential bit of kit for cold winter running incase there are areas of snow or ice.
